What to Expect?
The GWRS is the world’s largest water purification system for indirect potable reuse. The system takes highly treated wastewater that would have previously been discharged into the Pacific Ocean and purifies it using a three-step advanced treatment process consisting of microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light with hydrogen peroxide. The process produces high-quality water that meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards.
OCWD provides tours of the facility as an opportunity for guests to see the process in-person. Each tour offers a brief presentation about Orange County Water District and our groundwater management approach. We then take a walking tour through the GWRS plant, which typically takes approximately 45 minutes. It concludes with an opportunity to taste the GWRS water!
Applicable COVID protocols will be in place, an update will be provided. Lunch is included.
